The Acting Ambassador of the Ethiopian Embassy in Ghana, Asaye Alemayehu, has paid a farewell visit to the Ambassador of Liberia to Ghana, H.E. Musu J. Ruhle, as he prepares to conclude his tenure in Accra.
During the engagement, the two diplomats exchanged cordial farewell remarks and reflected on the enduring ties and expanding cooperation between Ethiopia and Liberia. They also reviewed recent developments in both countries, reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and advancing continental collaboration across Africa.
Ambassador Asaye, who assumed leadership of the Ethiopian Mission following the departure of former Ambassador Teferi Fikir Gosaye in February 2026, is expected to conclude his tenure in Ghana.
Ambassador Gosaye had earlier presented his Letters of Credence to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in July 2023, marking the formal consolidation of diplomatic relations and nearly two years of service in Accra.
Ambassador Asaye expressed his appreciation to the Liberian envoy for her hospitality and cooperation during his time in Ghana. In return, H.E. Musu J. Ruhle extended her best wishes to him as he prepares for his next diplomatic assignment.
Beyond the farewell engagement, the Acting Head of Mission has been active in strengthening Ethiopia–Ghana relations, particularly in the areas of peacebuilding and capacity development. He recently underscored this commitment during a graduation ceremony at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra, where Ethiopian trainees completed a peacekeeping capacity-building programme under the National Rehabilitation Commission.
The ceremony marked the graduation of the fourth batch of Ethiopian trainees and reinforced ongoing collaboration in security and institutional development between both countries.
Bilateral relations between Ghana and Ethiopia continue to expand across multiple sectors, including agriculture, trade, aviation, and people-to-people exchanges. Notably, he engaged with Ghanaian entrepreneur and shea industry advocate Hamamat Monita, who had announced plans to expand her shea butter enterprise into Ethiopia as part of efforts to empower women economically and promote sustainable livelihoods.
Aviation cooperation has also emerged as a key pillar of bilateral relations between Ghana and Ethiopia under outgone Ambassador, Teferi Fikir Gosaye and Acting Ambassador Asaye Alemayehu . Ethiopian Airlines has played a significant role in enhancing connectivity between both countries, becoming the first international carrier to land at Kumasi’s Prempeh I International Airport following its upgrade to international status. The airline continues to strengthen regional connectivity through expanded services between Accra and global destinations.
This partnership was further reinforced through a strategic agreement between Ethiopian Airlines’ former Chief Executive Officer, Tewolde Gebremariam, and Ghana’s then Aviation Minister, Joseph Kofi Adda, aimed at deepening air transport cooperation and positioning Ghana as a regional aviation hub in West Africa.
Institutional cooperation between Ghana and Ethiopia is also anchored in a General Cooperation Agreement signed in January 2014 in Accra by Ethiopia’s then Foreign Minister, Dr. Tedros Adhanom, and Ghana’s then Foreign Minister, Hanna Tetteh. The agreement provides a broad framework for collaboration in foreign policy coordination, trade, investment, agriculture, science and technology, and other key sectors of mutual interest.
