The National Dialogue will deliberate on several key issues identified through consultations conducted over the past four years by representatives from across Ethiopia. These agenda items are intended to address some of the country’s most important political, social and economic questions while laying the foundation for a shared national vision.

One of the central themes is nation-building, with participants expected to explore ways of strengthening national cohesion, promoting shared values and citizenship, and building consensus around Ethiopia’s future while safeguarding the continuity of the state.

The dialogue will also examine political governance, the federal system and the distribution of power. Discussions are expected to cover constitutional and governance issues, democratic institutions, good governance, and the country’s federal arrangement, with a view to identifying ways to improve the distribution of powers and responsibilities among different levels of government.

Another major area of deliberation concerns the status of Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa, Ethiopia’s two chartered cities. Participants will discuss governance and administrative matters affecting the two cities and their role within the country’s federal framework.
