President John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra for New York to attend the 81st United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
The theme for this year’s assembly is “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”
A statement issued by Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, said President Mahama would host two key side events to support Africa’s renewal and advance global action on historical justice.
It said on Monday, September 21, President Mahama would host a High-Level Event on the Accra Reset, convening world leaders to discuss “Full Circle: Making Global Development Work Again.”
On Wednesday, September 23, he would host a side event on the “Next Steps” to address “From Commitments to Action on Reparatory Justice: Advancing International Cooperation for the Return and Restitution of Cultural Properties and Heritage.”
The statement said President Mahama would deliver Ghana’s official statement during the main General Debate at the UN General Assembly on Thursday, September 24.
It said, in addition to his speech and the two side events, the President would participate in meetings to strengthen partnerships, encourage investment and engage with the diaspora.
He would also meet with world leaders, the UN Secretary-General and top executives of multinational companies.
To promote Ghana as a leading destination for business and investment, the President would ring the NASDAQ Closing Bell and meet business leaders at a US-Ghana Presidential Roundtable organised by the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce.
He would also speak at the Council on Foreign Relations and attend the Ocean Panel Leaders’ Meeting.
On Friday, September 25, President Mahama would host a Town Hall meeting with the Ghanaian community in New York to share updates on his vision for national development.
Accompanying the President are the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama; Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs; other Cabinet ministers; senior officials from the Presidency; and other government officials.
