President Mahama to meet French leader François Hollande

Mr Frederick Clarier, French Ambassador and Mr Ali Halabi, the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana on Friday paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing.

Alhaji Dauda, the Minister, said Ghana is committed to strengthening and deepening the bilateral relationship with their two nations to engender the country’s economic growth.

He said President John Dramani Mahama will visit France next month to meet the French President François Hollande to discuss emerging concerns between the two countries.

Alhaji Dauda said his Ministry was looking for support to replace the existing water pipes that are used by the Ghana Water Company and that France is supporting Ghana’s water sector.

The Minister also urged Lebanese investors in the country to consider channeling part of their resources to the water and housing sector in the country.

Mr Clarier said the Government of France shall continue to co-operate with Ghana and was ready support the development of the road network, water sector and other areas of the economy.

He said more than 500 boreholes have been constructed in the Brong Ahafo Region with funding from the French government and will be ready for commissioning by the end of June.

He said the French government has also made available a 40 million Euro facility for Ghana to fund water and sanitation projects.

Mr Clarier said the French Embassy in Ghana was working to construct a second batch of 105 boreholes in four regions to support the Ghana’s growing population and water demands.
