JICA Hands Over US$ 137,500 Worth Of Equipment To ECG

JICA-ecgThe Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has handed over equipment worth US$ 137,500 to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) under the Technical Cooperation Project of Electrical Engineers Training for African Countries.

The equipment, which include portable cable fault locator, oil tester, primary current injection test set, secondary injection test set and a portable power quality analyzer were meant for training purposes.

Mr Koji Makino, Chief Representative of JICA, stressed that the project, is a “technical cooperation on electrical engineers training, for updating the training curriculum, renewing training equipment and brushing up of trainer’s capacity; and that, it’s aimed  at enhancing quality training and professionalism on the job”.

He said: “As you are all aware, the Government of Ghana has been putting emphasis on the universal access of electricity, to achieve equitable and inclusive economic development of the country,” adding that, “the emphasis is not only on construction of distribution facility but also on the maintenance of the facility”.

Mr Makino noted that every year, ECG employs engineers and technicians and provides the mandatory trainings to effectively maintain ECG facilities.

Mr Robert Dwamena, Managing Director of ECG, who received the items on behalf of the Company, said the equipment will be utilized to improve teaching and learning at the Training Centre.

“We aim to enhance the quality of training and professionalism on the job and this generous gesture and technical co-operation will further strengthen the bond of friendship between the Government of Japan and Ghana”.
