AMA, French Development Agency Committed To Accra Mobile Project

AMA-FDAThe Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), French Development Agency (AFD) and the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE), have expressed commitment to help expand the use of mobile smart phone technologies in transportation planning.

Through the mobile phones, one can access data concerning vehicular movement such as “trotro” and buses, and also facilitate the effective movement of commuters and ease congestion on the roads.

More so, special bus stops on specific route of Accra would be provided to enable commuters using the application to know exactly when a bus would arrive.

Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive at the opening in Accra of the “Mobile Technologies for Smart Transportation Planning,” said the AMA would continue to introduce the right policy initiatives in Accra to meet the present and future needs of businesses.

He said many people are leaving the hinterlands to find greener pastures in the city while the demand for social and economic services is growing, hence the need for all businesses to position themselves to become effective in delivering services to their clients.

“Our interest as the Local Government Authority in providing the appropriate policy environment for a better transport system has led us to understand the “trotro” system and also to map its routes to a standard comparable to any modern transport planning system,” he said.

Madam Amelie July, the Resident Manager of French Development Agency, said the technology was one of the best for city management, adding that, “our vision is to provide innovative technologies that offers commuters tremendous advantage to meet their business needs.
