The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) of Ghana has received some equipment and tools from the British government to aid its work in the areas of organised crimes such as human trafficking.
The equipment were given to the EOCO’s Human Trafficking Unit (HTU) by the Drugs and Crime Team of the British High Commission in Accra.
The Team donated eight laptop computers, a photocopier, camera and other office equipment to the HTU, the British government said May 20, 2013 in a statement.
Presenting the items, the Criminal Justice Adviser at the High Commission, Roger Coventry, said the Unit had in the past also received some specialised intelligence training from the UK Serious and Organised Crime Agency (SOCA).
He said both the training and donation were efforts by SOCA to build the capacity of EOCO to deal with organised crime in Ghana.
The EOCO’s HTU is at the forefront of Ghana’s fight against human trafficking particularly the trafficking of children and young persons, usually for domestic work, prostitution and slave labour.
