The British High Commission in Ghana has opened applications for National Service Personnel under the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Policy and Political roles, with the deadline set for May 31, 2026.
The placement is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2026, with a 35-hour working week. Remuneration will be in line with the Ghana National Service Scheme allowance structure, alongside other applicable benefits and conditions of service.
The internship opportunity is open to final-year tertiary students in Ghana and will run for a one-year period. The programme is designed to provide graduates with professional exposure while supporting the operational work of the High Commission.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Policy and Political roles focus on supporting the UK government’s foreign policy objectives through research, analysis, and engagement on political, economic, and development issues. The role typically involves monitoring political developments, producing briefings and reports, engaging with stakeholders, and supporting diplomatic decision-making to advance UK interests and international partnerships.
Applicants are expected to be computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Candidates must also demonstrate core behavioural competencies such as communicating and influencing, delivering at pace, managing a quality service, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
The High Commission further emphasised that the use of artificial intelligence should be limited to formatting consistency and keyword support, stressing that responses, personal narratives, and competency-based answers must authentically reflect applicants’ experience and professional journey. It warned that plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.
“Please ensure that your application is authentically written based on your own experiences. If AI tools are used, their usage must only be limited to specific tasks such as ensuring formatting consistency and keyword relevance.” it stated.
