Chinese Ambassador Asks Ghanaians To Maintain Culture

Mrs Sun Baohong, Chinese Ambassador, has advised Ghanaians not to ignore their culture because of modernisation.

Mrs Sun said “modernisation does not mean abandoning our culture”.

She gave the advice on Tuesday when she paid a courtesy call on Nii Adjei Kraku II, Tema Paramount Chief as part of a working visit to Tema.

The Chinese Ambassador stated that Ghana has a splendid civilisation stressing the need for Ghanaians to maintain their national identity.

She indicated that culture has a lot to contribute towards the development of the country.

She called for cultural exchanges between China and Ghana especially Tema.

The Ambassador said the visit was to strengthen the 55-year bilateral relations as well as to create the needed relationship with Tema.

She noted that China would continue to invest in the country as her country is looking for economically favourable countries to do business with.

She said her outfit would also explore areas such as culture, education, and business.

Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said Tema would learn from the Chinese people on how to place the metropolis as the economic power of Ghana.

Mr Odamtten said a Tema-China trade centre would be built at the Tema Meridian enclave to encourage trade between the two countries.

He announced plans to have a Tema-Chinese Chamber of Commerce to guide importers to import high grade Chinese goods into the country.

Nii Adjei Krakru II, together with the MCE and the Chinese Ambassador, planted a mahogany tree at Adjetey Ansah School in Tema Manhean, to mark the growing relationship between Tema and China.

The Ambassador also visited Industrial City Basic School project at Oninku Drive School at Tema Community one, Sentuo Steel Company and Volta Aluminium Company.
