The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Ms Sun Baohong, on July 11, 2014, paid a courtesy call on the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo.

Ambassador Baohong noted that Ghana was one of the first sub-Saharan African countries to establish diplomatic relations with China.

She said the two countries still enjoyed profound traditional friendship and that in recent years, within the framework of FOCAC, China-Ghana co-operation in the fields of economy, trade, health and education had maintained a good momentum and yielded fruitful achievements.

She expressed the hope that guided by the common goals of development, China-Ghana relations would embrace an even brighter future.

She said in furtherance of that brighter future, President Mahama was being invited to China to discuss matters of mutual benefits to the respective countries.

Ambassador Baohong lauded the existing atmosphere of peace in Ghana and urged the government and people of Ghana not to disturb the peace in order to remain an attractive investment destination for Chinese as well as other investors.

She indicated the preparedness of Chinese investors to venture into energy, water supply and waste management in Ghana.

She noted that waste management was one area that posed serious challenges, adding that the Government of the People’s Republic of China was prepared to share experiences with the Government of Ghana in dealing with that challenge.

Ambassador Baohong mentioned the difficulty of Chinese investors to access land in Ghana and appealed to the Regional Minister to assist in that regard.

Receiving his guest, Hon. Afotey-Agbo expressed appreciation for the visit and pledged the support of the government and people of Ghana to the strengthening of Ghana-China relations.
