Ghana’s Deputy Defence Minister, Ernest Brogya Gyenfi, has received a delegation from the China National Aero-Technology Import and Export Corporation (CATIC) to explore defence cooperation opportunities under the growing bilateral relations between Ghana and China.
The meeting, held at The Square, builds on China’s expanding footprint in Ghana’s defence and security sector, where CATIC has increasingly positioned itself as a key partner to both the Ghana Navy and the Ghana Air Force in recent months.
CATIC’s engagements with Ghana’s military leadership have been consistent. On 2 June 2025, a CATIC delegation paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Blessing, at the Naval Headquarters to discuss future collaboration aimed at strengthening Ghana’s maritime security and enhancing operational capacity at sea.
China’s Defence Attaché to Ghana, Colonel Dou Yun, also reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to deepening military cooperation during a working visit earlier this year—shortly after China played a key role in the investigation into the GAF Z-9 helicopter crash.
At the latest meeting on 25 November, discussions focused on expanding military-to-military cooperation and identifying new areas of mutual benefit for both countries.
CATIC serves as a major platform for introducing China’s aviation and defence technologies to global partners. The company is backed by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) and is involved in aviation product development, technology transfer, manufacturing, and the supply of aviation equipment to international markets.
