The Supreme Court of the Federal Republic of Brazil and the Judiciary of the Republic of Ghana has signed a protocol of cooperation to deepen the relationship between their two respective institutions.
The protocol is to establish the guidelines for the implementation of cooperation to deepen mutual knowledge and skills and consolidate and reinforce the importance of the judiciary in a democratic state.
This came up when Mr Justice William Atuguba, the Acting Chief Justice received a Brazilian delegation led by Mr Joaquim Barbosa Gomez, President of the Supreme Court of Brazil in Accra.
Justice William Atuguba in welcoming the delegation stated that there was a long standing cordial relation between Ghana and Brazil which dated back many years.
He said the bond of friendship between the two nations had been growing from strength to strength.
He recalled when the former President of Brazil, Lula Da Silva visited Ghana in 2005 and signed many positive memoranda with the government.
Justice Atuguba also expressed the delight of the Ghanaian Judiciary to further cooperate with the Brazilian counterpart and deepen the ties between their organisations.
He assured the Brazilian delegation that despite the distance between the two nations they were still at home.
Mr. Joaquim Barbosa Gomez, President of the Supreme Court of Brazil on his part recognised the bond of friendship between Brazil and Ghana.
He lauded the intentions of the two countries to consolidate and intensify actions aimed at strengthening the cooperation between the Supreme Court of Brazil and the Judiciary of Ghana.
He called for collaboration between the Supreme Court of Brazil and the Judiciary of Ghana to ensure effective exchange of experiences on the modernization and improvement of the legal systems of the two countries.
The two officials later signed a protocol to expand the collaboration between their two respective institutions through exchange of experiences and documents.
