Five newly appointed envoys have been commissioned to represent the country in Kuwait, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Niger and Norway, tasked with advancing Ghana’s national interests and deepening bilateral cooperation with their respective host countries.
The envoys were commissioned on Thursday, August 13, 2026, by Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama.
The five appointees are Dr. Robert Afriyie, High Commissioner to Sierra Leone; Dr. Senalor Kwabla Yawlui, Ambassador to Norway; Maxwell Nyarko Lartey, Ambassador to Kuwait; Baba Sadiq Abdullai Abu, High Commissioner to Nigeria; and Isaac Joshua Ashirifi, Ambassador to Niger.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged the new envoys to use their diplomatic assignments to advance Ghana’s interests, particularly by identifying opportunities in trade, investment, technology and education.
“I therefore urged them to be visible and effective advocates for Ghana’s interests, deliberately pursuing opportunities in trade, investment, technology, education and other areas that advance our national development.” She mentioned.
She further stressed that the envoys’ responsibilities extend beyond relations between Ghana and their host governments to include the welfare of Ghanaian citizens living within their respective jurisdictions.
“Our citizens abroad must be treated with dignity, engaged consistently, and assured that their country and its missions remain available to support them.” She added.
The Vice President also directed the envoys to strengthen Ghana’s existing relationships with their host countries while seeking new areas of cooperation that could generate tangible benefits for the Ghanaian people.
She assured the new representatives that government would provide the necessary support for them to effectively discharge their responsibilities, while urging them to remain guided by the performance standards and key performance indicators introduced by President Mahama.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang further encouraged the envoys to approach their assignments with professionalism, integrity and a clear sense of purpose as they represent Ghana in their respective countries.
The commissioning comes at a time of significant geopolitical changes, requiring Ghana’s diplomatic missions to play an active role in protecting national interests, strengthening international partnerships and creating opportunities for economic and social development.
The Vice President congratulated the five envoys on their appointments and expressed confidence that their respective tenures would deepen Ghana’s international partnerships and create meaningful opportunities for the Ghanaian people.
