Ghana Elected To Serve On Three UN Bodies

united-nations-logoGhana has unanimously been elected to serve on the United Nations (UN) Commission on Social Development and two other subsidiary bodies of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

The rest are the Programme Coordinating Board of the Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the Committee for Development (CD) Policy.

A statement issued, in Accra, on Thursday, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the elections took place during the ECOSOC Coordination and Management meetings at the UN Headquarters in New York, during which the member-states filled outstanding vacancies in the Council.

It said Ghana’s membership of the UNAIDS, for a three year term, would begin on January 1, 2016 and expires on December 31, 2018.

“While Ghana’s membership of the CD’s will be for a four-year term during the first meeting of the Commission’s 55th Session in 2016 and expires at the close of the Commission’s 58th session in 2020,” it said.

Membership of the Committee for Development Policy will also be for a three-year term,” the statement added.
