Ghana’s SENG becomes first country affiliate of UN-led energy network

united-nations-logoThe Sustainable Energy Network Ghana (SENG) has become the first country affiliate of the global Energy Access Practitioner Network which is led by the United Nations Foundation.

This was after SENG was officially launched in the capital, Accra May 15, 2013 and the UN Foundation has welcomed the network as it seeks support for Ghana’s energy sector.

“As a country affiliate of the Energy Access Practitioner Network, the Sustainable Energy Network Ghana will be part of a global organization promoting the adoption and use of sustainable energy solutions for electrification,” said Richenda Van Leeuwen, Executive Director for Energy Access at the UN Foundation.

According to Van Leeuwen, SENG will connect practitioners in Ghana, giving them the unique opportunities to network and advocate in order to advance their businesses and the sector.

“Connections forged through SENG will help support improved health, education, gender equity, and economic benefits for families across the country,” Leeuwen added.

SENG is a network established to support the work of decentralized energy service providers in Ghana; serve as a platform to influence policy, increase advocacy for renewable energy; and strengthen the work of companies and non-profits delivering energy services in off-grid areas of the country.

SENG’s work is expected to support energy access in Ghana and contribute towards the global goal of achieving universal access to modern energy services by 2030, one of three objectives of the Sustainable Energy for All initiative led by the United Nations and the World Bank.
