The India High Commission in Ghana has held this year’s “India Fest,” to showcase its heritage and cultural values.
The festival, which was held at the Accra Sports Stadium, brought together hundreds of participants and patrons from the Indian community in Ghana, as well as non-Indian citizens.
Aimed at giving a deeper appreciation for India’s heritage to both Indians and non-Indians alike, the festival, which is one of the most anticipated cultural events on the Indian calendar, also sought to create cherished memories for the participants.
The festival started with a captivating dance performance, setting a festive tone for the evening’s activities and featured some Ghanaian artists, including the IndiGha Band that entertained the crowd with a fusion of Indian and Ghanaian rhythms, and dance performances.
It offered a variety of performances by Indian community associations, featuring traditional music and theatrical displays that highlighted the diversity of India’s cultural heritage, while providing an avenue for businesses to showcase their services and products.
Also included in the festival was a glimpse into India’s artistic legacy, showcasing an array of artifacts, sculptures, paintings, traditional attire, jewelry, and an authentic Indian cuisine experience, ranging from spicy street food to mouth-watering sweets.
In his remarks, Mr Manish Gupta, the India High Commissioner to Ghana, who welcomed the participants, said the event also coincided with the Diwala festival (festival of light), which symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.
He said the High Commission would ensure that India Fest remained a cherished and celebrated event in Accra’s cultural calendar and encouraged the India community to keep a close bond in order to preserve their cultural heritage and values.
The festival that brought together people from all walks of life, enhanced Accra’s cultural landscape and reinforced the strong bond between India and Ghana.
