The Ambassador of Japan, Naoto Nikai has supported the Ghana Baseball and Softball Association (GHABSA) with Baseball and Softball fields as part of his outfit’s effort to help promote and develop the youth through sports.

The project situated at Labone Senior High School was funded through Japans Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects (GCGP) worth 234,634.00 cedis.

Nikai stressed that the need to assist and develop the youth to overcome the challenges on the continent was to build them mentally and physically through sports.

I am confident the Baseball and Softball field will contribute significantly to enable the national baseball team to qualify for the 2020 Olympics which Japan will host and believe this construction and utilization of the field as the official baseball field for GHABSA to improve the cultural exchanges between both countries.

The president of GHABSA, Albert Frimpong said that his outfit in partnership with the Japan Embassy will arrange to send the best baseball and softball students to Japan for training.

He therefore appealed to corporate entities to help support the sport to motivate the players and students.

Minister of Youth and Sports Elvis Afriyie Ankrah commended the Embassy for the support. The funding of the various sports in the country is very huge that government is constraint to support all. This act by the Japanese Embassy is laudable and I hope many more people will come on board for the sport to be spread across the country

This sport presents a great opportunity to develop your talent to become one of the best baseball and softball stars since it has a huge following.
