A Japanese woman, Ms Midori Tatsuki, on Tuesday donated medical equipment valued at $5,000.00 to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to help in the improvement of emergency healthcare services in the country.
The equipment includes an AED Heart Start Machine with infant key, which helps in reviving unconscious patients, especially those with cardiac arrest or heart attack; FRx Trainer, a model for training, and a Laerdal Medical.
Ms Tatsuki also donated $300.00 to the GHS to support the families of the two Ridge Hospital nurses, who died in the June 3 flood disaster in Accra.
Moved by the plight of the death of her only son, who got drown and died in Cape Coast two years ago, Ms Tatsuki, who is also the Managing Director of Hiroya Foundation, an NGO based in Japan, decided to acquire the equipment to augment Ghana’s health sector.
Ms Tatsuki’s 30 year old son, who was then on internship with Toyota Ghana, had gone to the beach with friends and had got drown.
After he was rescued from the water, friends around took him to the Cape Coast government hospital but because there was no resuscitation machine around at the time, the son died.
Ms Tatsuki then decided to mobilize funds back home in Japan to acquire the equipment to support Ghana.
She has subsequently signed an MOU with the GHS to donate health equipment to support Ghana’s health sector from time to time.
Dr Gloria Quansah Asare, the GHS Deputy Director General, together with Mr Yaw Brobbey-Mpiani, GHS Deputy Director in charge of Administration, thanked Ms Tatsuki for the gesture and described her act as very thoughtful.
She said the equipment will be put into good use whiles the money will be donated to the families of the two deceased nurses.
Ms Tatsuki was accompanied by Ms Atsuko Uesugi, the Director of the Hiroya Foundation and Mr Yoshikazu Tamura, the Chairman of the Japanese community in Ghana.
