The Second Edition of Made-in Ghana Products Festival of the Melcom Group is underway at its Melcom Plus Supermarket at the North Kaneshie Industrial Area in Accra.

The six-week event is aimed at showcasing Made-in-Ghana products, and to motivate Ghanaians to patronize them, hence ensuring that local products are not taken for granted.

Mr. Godwin Avenorgbo, Melcom Group Communications Director in his address at the launch on Tuesday recounted that the First Edition which was held in 2013 was a success, which has inspired them to hold the Second Edition.

He said the Made-in-Ghana Festival seeks to cut down the cost of importing foreign goods, by promoting the consumption of local ones, thereby helping to promote the growth of the country’s economy.

He said this year’s edition had been extended to cover fruits and vegetables, which would go a long way to support local farmers, declaring that “All big things started on a small scale”.

The Communications Director said 70 local companies are participating in the Festival, with over 700 products on exhibition.

He said as part of efforts to save lives, the Group would be organizing a nationwide blood donation on July 30, in 17 of its supermarkets located throughout the country, excluding the Upper West Region.

Mr. Avenorgbo said it was a pity that most blood banks in the country were lacking blood, and therefore urged Ghanaians to donate blood to help save people from avoidable deaths.

He announced that the Group would be establishing a bakery to help boost the supply of quality bread in the country.
