President Akufo-Addo Leaves For AU summit In Rwanda

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday left Ghana as the head of a Ghanaian delegation to attend the African Union (AU) Summit in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Extraordinary Summit of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU on the African Continental Free Trade Area, comes off Wednesday, March 21, 2018,

The January 2018 Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the AU held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, agreed to the Kigali Extraordinary Summit, where the Heads of State are expected to sign onto an agreement that would launch the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

AfCFTA is one of the flagship projects of Agenda 2063 that aims to deepen the Continent’s integration process, and make the largest free trade area created since the formation of the World Trade Organisation.

The Free Trade Area is one of the flagship projects of Agenda 2063 and aims to deepen the integration process, by allowing Africans to trade and move freely across the continent.

President Akufo-Addo was accompanied by the Foreign Affairs Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Trade and Industry Minister, Mr Alan Kyerematen, and officials of the Presidency and the Foreign Ministry.

He is expected back in Ghana on Wednesday, March 21, 2018.

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, shall, in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution act as President until his return.
