President Mahama Arrives In Abuja To Chair ECOWAS Summit

President John Dramani Mahama on Sunday arrived in the Nigerian Federal Capital, Abuja, to chair an end-of-year summit of the Economic Community of West African States, (ECOWAS).

The summit would review the major activities of the year, including the security situation in the sub-region and the fight against Ebola.

The one-day summit, which opens on Monday, December 15, would also discuss the situation in Burkina Faso and the Election of the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority for 2015.

President Mahama was met on arrival by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hanna Tetteh, Minister of Finance, Seth Terkper, Minister of Defence, Dr Benjamin Kunbour, and Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, William Awinador-Kanyirige.

Also present to receive President Mahama were the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Kadré Désiré Ouedraogo and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for West Africa, Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas, as well as Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Supervising Minister of Information, Dr Nurudeen Mohammed.
