President Mahama receives Governor of Wisconsin State on Accra visit

President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, July 21, held a meeting with Governor Tony Evers of Wisconsin State in the United States at the Presidency in Accra. 

A statement issued by the Presidency said Governor Evers, who was leading a business delegation, was in Accra to bolster international trade efforts, by promoting exports from the State, and ensure Wisconsin’s vital industries, businesses, families, workforce, as well as economy continue to thrive. 

In his remarks, President Mahama spoke about ongoing reforms in the economy and growing investor interests. 

He touched on Ghana’s recent completion of an International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout programme, adding that the country is back on track and open for business. 

He highlighted policy initiatives including the 24-hour Economy programme designed to boost production, promote manufacturing and industrialisation for job creation and growth.

President Mahama added that his government had established an Accelerated Export Development Advisory Committee that would ensure that Ghana becomes an export-driven economy. 

He expressed Ghana’s interest in collaborating with Wisconsin in the field of Agriculture and her readiness to explore other business opportunities with the State. 

The President also briefed the Governor and his delegation about policies designed to expand access to education to train the needed human resource for Ghana’s development. 

On his part, Governor Evers said the trade mission was critical and intended to build on global partnerships and promote Wisconsin as a place where companies could grow their businesses. 

Present at the meeting were: Madam Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew, Senior Legal Advisor to the President; Mr Victor Smith, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States and Madam Khadija Iddrisu, Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
