PwC Ghana in collaboration with the Embassy of France to Ghana and UNDP Ghana has held the 4th edition of the Ghana Sustainable Business Forum (SBF), a PwC initiative under the PwC Business School. The Forum was opened by the Minister for Environment Science Technology and Innovation, Hon. MahamaAyariga, and the Ambassador of France to Ghana, HE François Pujolas.
The event,that took place Thursday, 26th November at Novotel Hotel in Accra, was centered on the upcoming 21th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate change (CoP21) in Paris with focus on private sector perspective. The event provided insight on Ghana’s commitment to the COP21 and highlighted Ghanaian made climate smart initiatives and the role of the private sector in contribution towards meeting these commitments.
Participants benefited from best practices on integrating climate change considerations into business operations; and highlights of local climate smart technology designed in Ghana for Ghanaians. It included dialoguing and networking with other key private sector participants on the day. Participants also had the opportunity of knowing about findings from a survey being carried out by PwC Ghana that seeks to highlight the readiness of the business community in Ghana regarding Global Climate Change and Sustainability issues.
In his speech, the Ambassador of France recalled the major steps that had led to the Paris conference; he also underlined the four pillars on which the Paris Climate Alliance shoud be based, namely national commitments, review and future commitments, financial chapter, partnerships between all actors. He stressed the “key role” played by the private sector in this regard. As a conclusion, he cited Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the French author of The Little Prince,”We don’t inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children”.
