Swiss ambassador bids farewell after four years in Benin

Switzerland’s Ambassador to Benin, H.E. Simone Giger, has paid a farewell visit to Benin’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Corinne Amori Brunet, bringing to a close a four-year diplomatic mission marked by cooperation in governance, youth development, social cohesion and climate resilience.

The farewell meeting, announced by the Embassy of Switzerland in Benin, Togo and Ghana, provided an opportunity for both sides to reflect on the longstanding partnership between the two countries and the progress achieved during Ambassador Giger’s tenure.

The visit also highlighted more than 40 years of cooperation between Switzerland and Benin. Over the decades, Switzerland has supported development initiatives in governance, local administration, vocational training, youth employment and climate adaptation through its development cooperation programmes, making it one of Benin’s longstanding international partners.

During the discussions, Ambassador Giger and Minister Brunet reviewed the achievements of the bilateral relationship and reaffirmed their shared commitment to sustaining cooperation in areas critical to Benin’s development agenda.

According to the Swiss Embassy, the meeting focused on key sectors including governance, social cohesion, youth employment and climate resilience, all of which continue to play an important role in promoting sustainable development and improving livelihoods.

The engagement also underscored the importance of international partnerships in addressing emerging social, economic and environmental challenges while strengthening institutional capacity and community resilience.

As Ambassador Giger concludes her assignment, both countries expressed appreciation for the strong relations built over the years and reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening Switzerland–Benin cooperation in the future.
