Three Chinese nationals among six arrested over alleged murder at Gwira mining site

The Western Regional Police Command has arrested three Ghanaians and three Chinese nationals in connection with a suspected murder at a mining site at Gwira Ampansie in the Nzema East District of Ghana’s Western Region.

The arrest follows a fatal shooting incident in which the family head of Gwira Ampansie, Angu Mensah, was allegedly killed after a dispute at the mining site escalated into violence involving the discharge of a firearm.

The Police have identified the suspects as Hamza Abubakar (36), Hamidu Seidu (42), Francis Biewose (26), Bai Yaozheng (36), Liu Gang (43), and Wen Xien Wen (45). Authorities say all six suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations, while a seventh suspect, Alfred Sadick, also known as “Strongman,” is on the run and believed to have discharged the fatal shot.

In a statement, the Police said: “The six suspects are currently in Police custody assisting investigation. Efforts are underway to get the suspect Alfred Sadick also known as ‘Strong Man’ arrested.”

The statement further indicated that the Axim Police received a distress call about a shooting incident at a mining site, prompting the deployment of the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) to the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest that Alfred Sadick allegedly fired the shot that struck the deceased in the chest during a misunderstanding.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Axim Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The Police have appealed to the public to assist with information leading to the arrest of the fleeing suspect.
