U.S. Congress honours Ghana Black Stars with Congressional Proclamation

 The United States House of Representatives has honoured Ghana’s Black Stars with an official Congressional Proclamation in recognition of the team’s performance and achievements at the FIFA World Cup.

The proclamation was presented by U.S. Congressman Brendan F. Boyle during the GHPAC Global Pitch Philadelphia Forum held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 26, 2026. The honour was received on behalf of the Black Stars by Ghana Football Association Vice President, Mark Addo, at the strategic trade and investment forum organised by the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C.The recognition formed part of the Embassy’s broader commercial diplomacy strategy to leverage Ghana’s participation in the FIFA World Cup to promote trade, attract investment, expand business networks and deepen economic cooperation between Ghana and key U.S. states.According to the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C., the GHPAC Global Pitch Philadelphia Forum was organised as a side event to the FIFA World Cup to connect Ghanaian businesses and institutions with investors, policymakers and industry leaders in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, using the global sporting spectacle as a platform for economic engagement.The Congressional Proclamation recognised the Black Stars’ achievements on the world stage while underscoring the role of sports in strengthening international goodwill and creating opportunities for deeper cooperation beyond football.A Congressional Proclamation is a formal statement of recognition issued by a member of the United States Congress to honour individuals, organisations or institutions for notable achievements, outstanding service or significant contributions. Although it does not carry the force of law, it is regarded as a prestigious symbol of official recognition by the U.S. Congress.The forum also brought together key stakeholders from both Ghana and the United States, including Florence Torson-Hart, President of the U.S.-Ghana Chamber of Commerce, Philadelphia; Congressman Brendan F. Boyle; the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority; and a representative of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority.The participation of officials from Ghana’s trade and investment institutions reflected the government’s efforts to align sports diplomacy with commercial diplomacy by showcasing the country’s investment potential, export opportunities and business environment to strategic partners in the United States.Officials believe the initiative will help strengthen economic ties between Ghana and Pennsylvania while opening new avenues for trade, investment and private sector collaboration, reinforcing the growing partnership between the two countries through sports, commerce and people-to-people engagement.
