UNIDO to support Ghana in industrial development

UnidoThe United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) is to support the Ghanaian Government to build specific country programmes to promote industrial development.

Mr. Li Yong, Director General of UNIDO, said the organisation would jointly develop the programmes with Ghana to enhance the country’s industrial development.

Mr. Li said this when he paid a courtesy call on Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Trade and Industry in Accra on Wednesday.

The Director General of UNIDO commended Ghana on its ability to promote industrial development to improve on its economy, adding that industrial development was key to improving the emerging economies around the world.

He said his outfit had developed new approaches to support countries to move faster in their industrial development processes.

According to him, UNIDO was promoting an inclusive and sustainable industrial development to harness the full potential of industries contributions to the achievement of sustainable development and lasting prosperity for all.
Mr. Li said the organisation had developed tools and strategies that would support its members in the area of agribusiness, agriculture and the pharmaceutical sector.

Mr. Iddrisu commended the Director-General of UNIDO for the intervention programmes in the areas of cocoa value addition and in the cotton sectors.

He said through the organisation’s support,  a manual on good practices had been developed for the pharmaceutical sector.

He added that, government was committed to the development of the pharmaceutical sector, hence the investment of over $20 million to support the sector.
Mr. Li is on a working visit to Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal.
