Vice President Opoku-Agyemang in Luanda for AU-EU Summit

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has arrived in Luanda, the Angolan capital, to participate in the Seventh African Union-European Union (AU-EU) Summit.

The Vice President, who is representing President John Dramani Mahama at the Summit, will deliver Ghana’s national statement, outlining the country’s priorities in economic stability, job creation, food security, climate action, peace and security, and value-chain development.

The two-day Summit, which opens on November 24 under the theme: “Promoting peace and prosperity through effective multilateralism”, marks 25 years of AU-EU partnership and coincides with the 50th anniversary of independence for Angola and several other African countries.

It will be co-chaired by Angolan President João Lourenço and the President of the European Council, António Costa.

The EU will also be represented by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, while the AU delegation will be led by Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission.

Over the two days, leaders will discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in key areas, including peace, security, governance and multilateralism; and prosperity, people, migration and mobility.

The Summit is expected to end with a joint declaration reaffirming a strong, balanced and forward-looking AU-EU partnership.

She is expected to return to Accra on Wednesday, November 26.
