The French Ambassador to Ghana, Diarra Dime-Labille, and a delegation from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) have engaged the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
The AFD delegation was led by its Country Director, Clémentine Dardy, with discussions focused on deepening energy collaboration between Ghana and France and identifying pathways for further cooperation in the sector.
The engagement comes against the backdrop of longstanding AFD support for Ghana’s energy sector, including electricity transmission infrastructure, regional energy security and the country’s transition towards a lower-carbon energy system.
AFD has supported projects involving GRIDCo and NEDCo, including the Kumasi–Bolgatanga transmission line and upgrades to the Kumasi–Anwomaso transmission network.
The broader areas of Ghana-France energy cooperation also include renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate-focused financing and technical assistance aimed at supporting a more sustainable and reliable energy system. AFD says its energy strategy in West Africa prioritises expanding access to electricity, developing renewable energy, modernising electricity grids and improving energy efficiency.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation between Ghana and France, stressing the need for the partnership to deliver tangible socio-economic benefits for citizens of both countries.
“The government remains resolute in deepening this alliance to deliver tangible socio-economic benefits for the citizens of both Ghana and France,” he stated.
