The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence has announced the death of a member of the UK Armed Forces in a road traffic incident in Ukraine.
The individual died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, with the Ministry yet to disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident. Reports indicate that the death was not believed to have resulted from hostile action.
The Ministry said the family of the deceased has been informed and has requested a period of grace before further details are released.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defence expressed its condolences to the individual’s family and loved ones, saying: “Our thoughts and our sympathies are with the individual’s loved ones at this difficult time.”
The identity of the deceased and the branch of the UK Armed Forces in which the individual served have not yet been made public.
The death comes amid the continued presence of a limited number of UK military personnel in Ukraine, where British personnel have supported Kyiv’s armed forces and provided security and other assistance.
The incident marks the second confirmed death of a British service member in Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.

In December 2025, another British serviceman, Lance Corporal George Hooley, died in Ukraine while observing the testing of a new air-defence capability away from the front line.
The latest death comes as the war between Russia and Ukraine continues, with Russia maintaining its military operations and Ukraine receiving military and political support from Britain and other European countries.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly warned European countries against deploying troops to Ukraine, with recent remarks reported as saying that sending European forces would amount to direct involvement in the conflict and an act of war against Russia.
However, there is currently no indication from the UK Ministry of Defence that the latest death was connected to hostile military action or that the individual was killed while participating in combat operations. The circumstances remain under investigation, with further details expected after the period requested by the family.
