The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Ghana has celebrated the 27th anniversary of the accession of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the Throne, commemorating nearly three decades of the monarch’s leadership and Morocco’s continued progress.
The celebration was held on Thursday evening at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra and hosted by the Embassy of Morocco in Ghana. The event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, representatives of international organisations, business leaders and members of the Moroccan community in Ghana. Ghana was officially represented by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim.
Welcoming guests, Morocco’s Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Imane Ouaadil, highlighted the growing partnership between Ghana and Morocco and announced plans for an upcoming Ghana–Morocco Economic and Investment Forum aimed at boosting bilateral trade and investment.
“Our two governments have also agreed to establish a Ghana–Morocco Economic and Investment Forum led by the private sector, which will attract fresh investment into our bilateral trade and investment sectors,” she said.
In his address, Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim underscored Morocco’s significant contributions to Ghana’s development, particularly in the areas of education, trade, agriculture and technical cooperation. He noted that these initiatives had further strengthened the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
“The government of Ghana is particularly pleased with the population in agriculture and food security,one of the must productive pillar of Ghana-Morocco relation, is Morocco donation of 2,000 tones of fertilisers through the OCP to the government of Ghana represents an important commitment to improving agricultural productivity and enhancing food security in Ghana”. He mentioned.
The annual Throne Day is Morocco’s most important national celebration, commemorating the accession of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the throne in 1999. Beyond its ceremonial significance, the occasion provides an opportunity for Morocco to reflect on its national development and strengthen diplomatic relations with partner countries around the world. Ghana and Morocco have continued to deepen cooperation through high-level political engagement, trade, education, agriculture and South-South cooperation. The two countries also maintain a Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation, which serves as a framework for expanding bilateral relations.
The ceremony was attended by several members of the diplomatic community, including the Ambassador of Israel to Ghana, representatives of the United Nations system in Ghana, UNESCO officials and other dignitaries, underscoring the significance of the occasion within Ghana’s diplomatic calendar.
The event also highlighted the growing partnership between Ghana and Morocco, particularly in the areas of trade, education, investment and technical cooperation, which have become key pillars of relations between the two countries in recent years.
Morocco has emerged as one of Ghana’s key partners in North Africa, with both countries working to expand collaboration across strategic sectors while promoting regional stability, economic development and stronger cooperation across the African continent.
The celebration concluded with renewed expressions of friendship and cooperation, reflecting the shared commitment of Ghana and Morocco to advancing bilateral relations and promoting mutual prosperity through sustained diplomatic engagement.
