India’s Ramky Group has expressed interest in investing at least US$2 billion in Ghana over the next five years, with proposed investments spanning pharmaceuticals, waste management, energy, housing, agriculture and agro-processing, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) has disclosed.
A major component of the proposed investment is the phased development of a 2,000-acre industrial park, which is expected to accommodate a range of manufacturing and processing activities. The proposed park would include a dedicated pharmaceutical manufacturing zone, alongside facilities for food processing, chemicals, textiles, petrochemicals and medical devices.
“India’s Ramky Group has expressed interest in investing at least US$2 billion in Ghana over the next five years, with proposed investments spanning pharmaceuticals, waste management, energy, housing, agriculture and agro-processing.” GEPA stated in a post
If realised, the industrial park could provide a platform for local and international companies to establish production facilities in Ghana, while strengthening domestic supply chains, creating employment and expanding the country’s manufacturing base. It could also support greater local production and value addition across several sectors.
The group is also exploring investments in waste management and waste-to-energy infrastructure, including a national-scale medical waste management facility, a hazardous industrial waste treatment plant and a proposed 24-megawatt waste-to-power project.
The waste-to-energy proposal draws on an area in which Ramky has established experience. The group developed the 24MW Narela-Bawana waste-to-energy facility in Delhi, which uses municipal solid waste to generate electricity. India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy lists the Ramky facility among the country’s municipal solid-waste-to-energy projects.
Beyond industrial and environmental infrastructure, Ramky is considering projects in affordable housing, agriculture and agro-processing, areas that could support value addition, expand domestic processing capacity and create employment across Ghana’s economy.
The proposals were discussed during a meeting between Ramky Group Founder and Chairman Shri Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy and the leadership of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, led by Chief Executive Officer Simon Madjie and Deputy Chief Executive Razak Baba. Representatives of the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Secretariat also participated in the engagement.
Discussions focused on opportunities for collaboration, investment facilitation and the practical steps required to advance the proposed projects. The engagement also highlighted the importance of creating an enabling environment capable of attracting and supporting large-scale investments with long-term economic benefits.
For Ghana, the proposed projects could support efforts to expand domestic manufacturing, strengthen local value chains and attract technology and expertise into strategic sectors. Ramky’s existing experience in environmental services and infrastructure provides a potential basis for collaboration, particularly in waste management and resource recovery.
The proposed investment also presents an opportunity to deepen Ghana-India economic relations, particularly through private-sector partnerships in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, infrastructure and environmental services. Ramky has previously pursued expansion opportunities in African markets, including Ghana.
The engagement comes as Ghana seeks to attract large-scale private investment to support industrialisation, job creation and the development of export-oriented industries. If the proposals progress beyond the expression of interest into agreements, financing and implementation, they could represent a significant addition to Ghana’s industrial and environmental infrastructure.
